This surreal view of a giant seashell witnessed by the Woody comes with an amazing story. The idea and design were well under way when I made the decision to include a drawing of two palm trees done by my recently passed mother-in-law, Betty Fogg. Later to my great surprise, I found out that Betty and her new husband Fred left for their honeymoon almost 60 years ago in a Woody. Sometimes inspiration comes in unexpected ways. The shell symbolizes future home and family. Machine pieced.

The intense blue to white background fabric was made by Jeanette Viviano. She made two types of hand dyed sateen fabrics for the background at the same time so that the blue hue of the two fabrics would match. The first was a white to dark blue fabric and the second was a medium blue to dark blue fabric. The moon fabric is a white-on-white fabric with a rich peach and yellow hand-dyed fabric under the white fabric. The leaves are a mixture of kimono silks and cotton hand-dyed fabrics that I have collected over the years from various people.

One great use for shibori can be found in the water. Another can be found in the planks of wood used in the ark, where the brown shibori was cut up and artistically pieced.
The border uses an ultra sateen blend that goes from golden brown to dark brown. It was cut into strips and the two dark edges were seamed together with the two light edges creating a beautiful glow.
